NBA goes all the way back to 1937 when it was established as The National Basketball League (NBL). It was primarily made up of Great Lakes area small-market and corporate basketball teams. The Basketball Association of America (BAA) league was founded in 1946 by owners of the major ice hockey arenas in the Northeastern and Midwestern U.S. and Canada. After BAA was established to play in bigger arenas, some NBL teams decided to join the BAA. On August 3, 1949, the remaining NBL teams merged with BAA and changed the league name to National Basketball Association (NBA) to avoid legal issues. Currently, there are 30 NBA franchises. NBA team logos are easily recognizable around the world. The NBA logo player is Jerry West, which features a silhouette picture of him.
In 1969, Alan Siegel, who oversaw the design of Jerry Dior's Major League Baseball logo a year prior, created the modern NBA logo inspired by the MLB's. It incorporates the silhouette of the legendary Jerry West based on a photo by Wen Roberts, although NBA officials denied a particular player as being its influence because, according to Siegel, "They want to institutionalize it rather than individualize it. It's become such a ubiquitous, classic symbol and focal point of their identity and their licensing program that they don't necessarily want to identify it with one player." The iconic logo debuted in 1971 (with a small change to the typeface on the NBA wordmark in 2017) and would remain a fixture of the NBA brand.

Most logos are distributed vector-based. There are several vector-based file formats, such as EPS, PDF, and SVG. Simple images suchas logos will generally have a smaller file size than their rasterized JPG, PNG, or GIF equivalent. You can read more about Raster vs Vector on the vector-conversions.com.
Logos fall into three classifications (which can be combined). Ideographs are abstract forms; pictographs are iconic, representational designs;Logotypes (or Wordmarks) depict the name or company's initials. Because logos are meant to represent companies brands or corporate identities and foster their immediate customer recognition, it is counterproductiveto redesign logos frequently.
A logo is the central element of a complex identification system that must be functionally extended to an organization's communications. Therefore, the design of logos and their incorporation into a visual identity system is oneof the most challenging and essential graphic design areas.
